Today's Reminder: You Are Enough
I'll never forget a moment back in 2018, during a pivotal consultation for my mission, "Be who you came to be." I was told by the experts that while my message was resonant, my "ordinary" background might make it hard to sell. Not being a Fortune 500 executive, an author, an Olympian, a Nobel laureate, or a survivor of extreme adventures, I felt momentarily defeated.
But then, it hit me—my ordinariness is exactly why this message is so vital. We often overlook the beauty and power in being ordinary. We question our worth and influence. We worry if we’re enough. Today, I want to remind you: You are enough. Embracing this truth is an act of self-regard, affirming your value and capabilities in the face of doubts.
Every interaction you have, every moment you share—these are opportunities to make a meaningful impact. Did you know? Over a lifetime, you might engage in up to 80,000 face-to-face interactions. Imagine the potential! Each moment, no matter how small, is a chance to alter the trajectory of someone's day—or even their life.
Consider the moments you share with others in an elevator, at the grocery store, or when speaking with a customer service agent. Practicing empathy, understanding the world from their perspective, enhances these encounters. It’s not about what went wrong; it’s about how you respond. Your ordinary interactions have the power to be extraordinary.
As Maya Angelou beautifully said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Your legacy isn’t built on grand achievements, but on the love and kindness you share, rooted in self-regard and expressed through empathy.
